Report from the Scottish Amateur Showjumping Unaffiliated Day
at Dabbs Arena - 12th November 2000

DABBS DOES IT AGAIN!!

With kind permission of Brian Watson, Events Organiser at Dabbs Arena, Fife, the first of ten qualifiers was held for the Scottish Amateur Showjumping final, which is to be held at Dabbs Arena in June 2001.

Despite the appalling weather forecast, competitors were not deterred in any way from attending what proved to be an excellent days’ showjumping, with classes catering for the absolute beginners with clear round jumping to the more experienced riders and steeds who tackled the open classes.

The main purpose of the day was to invite competitors who are interested in representing Scotland at next years’ final, to compete in the SAIS Amateur Championship Qualifier, which with an entry of 34 proved to be one of the best classes of the day.

The class was open to all with the first 6 qualifying for the final, however, in order to qualify riders are required to be over 16 years of age.

The outright winner of the class was thirteen year old, Jennifer Raeside riding her Wembley pony, Edenside Black Jack, with the six qualifiers being Dominique Bonelli-Baird riding, her husband Andrew’s Anique Duty Calls, Diane Law with Crannog Tali Ho, Jane Gilchrist with Dingle Bay, Kathryn Muir riding Timeless Rhumour, Jo Gallnick with What’s New and Bertie Whiteford with her own Precious Promise.

Bertie Whiteford, chairperson for the SAIS said “it was great to see such a turn-out with all competitors enjoying their day. It is good to see so many young riders showing such enthusiasm for the sport. We are hoping to hold another unaffiliated day in the New Year, which will host an additional qualifier.”

If you would like to receive further information regarding the Qualifiers for the Amateur Shows, please do not hesitate to contact Bertie Whiteford, Chair of the SAIS on 01334 470462 or Debbie Wheelans, Secretary of the SAIS on 07740 575584.
